About Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is a type of treatment that helps people manage emotional challenges, mental health issues, or personal struggles by talking with a trained Therapist. It’s an opportunity to have a conversation with a Therapist that can help you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The goal is to gain insight, learn coping skills, and find healthier ways to deal with the presenting issues and challenges in your life. Different approaches/interventions, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or talk therapy, can be individualized to each person’s needs.
The Intake Process
The intake process involves: You making contact with me. I will respond back asking you for some helpful information in order to help onboard you, as well as, verify your benefits and eligibility. Once confirmed, I will reach back out to you, and make sure that you are comfortable with moving forward. If you are comfortable to move forward, we will schedule our initial session. I will send you paperwork to review and sign, and this will need to be completed prior to our session. In the initial session, we will discuss the forms you signed, the therapeutic process, confidentiality, and items of importance that should be discussed prior to therapy beginning. I then move forward in inviting you to share with me more about yourself, and the reasons you came to therapy. We will then wrap the session up with me learning more about the symptoms that we want to alleviate. At the end of the initial session, I will confirm with you whether or not you would like to move forward with therapy with me.
Follow-Up Sessions
If you are comfortable enough to move forward with me as your provider, we will schedule your next session according to both of our schedules. After the initial assessment and goal-setting, follow-up sessions are where our real therapy work will take place. Here’s what you can expect in these ongoing sessions:
